Type 92 scope
7.7x58 - Japan - Type 3/Type 92

Like other WW2 japanese scope, unsure what the correct designation was for this scope. It is possibly 九六式眼鏡照準具を (Type 96 telescopic sight), but that may also be the name of the scope used on the Type 96 light machine gun. Regardless, it appears on both the Type 92 (九二式重機関銃, Kyūni-shiki jū-kikanjū) and earlier Type 3 (三年式重機関銃, San-nen-shiki juu-kikanjuu) machine gun.

Images

On Type 3 and Type 92 machine gun.

On Type 3 machine gun being moved into place, probably somewhere in China.

On capture Type 92 machine gun with Australian soldiers.

A mystery Type 92 scope, photo supposedly from the Battle of Shanghai (1937). Unknown if this a variant of the of the same scope or a totally different scope. Appears to have a much higher periscope style layout.

Another mystery scope. Appears to be more simplified scope for the Type 92 machine gun intended only for direct fire.

Reticle examples from scope 3290 (left) and 34132 (right). Both show signs of age and damage.

Serial Numbers

Scopes are marked with two serial numbers. Presumably scope serial and machine gun serial. Not sure which is which.
